Heading 5
Cotella Barlow makes a meager living helping new mothers in their "lying in" period. She lives deep in Appalachia, traveling from home to home. Until she enters her next home and finds a dying mother and four starving children, victims of the strange new influenza of 1918. A story of grit, love, and human connection.

Scott Wallace, editor of the local paper in Pierce's Crossing, Georgia, has his hands full making sure the community paper is published two times per week and sharing custody of his special needs son. But sometimes the news is more than just words on the page, and he finds himself gathering evidence and helping the local sheriff's department with crimes in Keowah County. When the wedding of the year involves a dead stranger, when a promising young woman is found dead on her parents' property on the Fourth of July, and when a 60-year-old hate crime cries out to be resolved, Scott becomes involved.
